2014 - Mid-Year Rankings: US Internet Search

Google maintains top position in this category and came in at number 10 in the overall US Top Ten Buzz list. This year they acquired Songza, a service that creates soundtracks tailored to people’s moods. Google also started implementing search removal requests after the “right to be forgotten” legislation was passed in Europe earlier this year.

At number two, Yahoo, continued its strategy to move into content with some key acquisitions, and talks to buy News Distribution Network.
In April it was reported that paid search on number three-ranked Bing, although starting from a smaller base than Google, grew by 60%, which is more than double the rate of Google's 29% growth over the same period.

Methodology:

These brands were rated using YouGov BrandIndex’s Buzz score which asks respondents, “If you've heard anything about the brand in the last two weeks, through advertising, news or word of mouth, was it positive or negative?”

The Buzz Rankings chart shows the brands with the highest average Buzz scores between January and June 2014. The Buzz Improvers chart ranks the brands with the highest increase in Buzz between January to June 2014 and January to June 2013. Both scores are representative of the general population.

All Buzz scores listed have been rounded to a single decimal place, however, we have used additional precision to assign ranks.
