2014 - Mid Year Global Ranking

2014 - Mid-Year Rankings: US Auto

Ford continues to dominate the auto category. Ford’s notable C-MAX hybrid ad this year poked a little fun at Cadillac’s “Poolside” creation. Cadillac’s ad had stirred up its own media storm after condemning other countries for their long vacations and by championing severe work regimes “for stuff”. The Ford ad used similar camera shots but the message was rather different: “It’s pretty simple. You work hard. You believe that anything is possible, and you try to make the world better."

In a year dominated by recalls and the negative publicity surrounding GM and Chevrolet in particular, the top five sector list has lower overall Buzz scores than this time last year. Volkswagen and Chevrolet drop out of the top 5 from the 2013 rankings to be replaced by Subaru and BMW.

Methodology:

These brands were rated using YouGov BrandIndex’s Buzz score which asks respondents, “If you've heard anything about the brand in the last two weeks, through advertising, news or word of mouth, was it positive or negative?”

The Buzz Rankings chart shows the brands with the highest average Buzz scores between January and June 2014. The Buzz Improvers chart ranks the brands with the highest increase in Buzz between January to June 2014 and January to June 2013. Both scores are representative of the general population.

All Buzz scores listed have been rounded to a single decimal place, however, we have used additional precision to assign ranks.
