2013 - Annual Rankings: US Retail - Specialty

Lowe's retained leader position in the Specialty Retail category as well as number five in the overall BrandIndex rankings for 2013. Their Vine campaign won kudos in the marketing media as one of the best uses of social media in a marketing campaign. The six-second stop-motion tutorials tackled everything from unscrewing a stripped screw and removing stubborn stickers to avoiding bent paint brush bristles.

Walgreens is in second position for the category and also made the overall Top 10 at number seven. Walgreens this year finished integrating its loyalty program across all Walgreens and Duane Reade stores and offered customers the chance to link their exercise-tracking devices to their loyalty accounts and earn points for physical activity.

These brands were rated using YouGov BrandIndex’s Buzz score which asks respondents, "If you've heard anything about the brand in the last two weeks, through advertising, news or word of mouth, was it positive or negative?"

The Buzz Rankings chart shows the brands with the highest average Buzz scores between January and December 2013. The Buzz Improvers chart ranks the brands with the highest increase in Buzz between Jan-Dec 2013 and the same period in 2012. Both scores are representative of the general population.

All Buzz scores listed have been rounded to a single decimal place, however, we have used additional precision to assign ranks.
