2013 - Annual Rankings: US Retail - Discount

Amazon is a sector leader with an impressive 30.1 in Buzz – making it the top-rated brand in the US, overtaking Ford’s 2012 lead. Amazon revealed that the Kindle Fire HD and the 7-inch Kindle Fire HDX were its top selling items during the Holiday season.

Target snagged second place with a score of 20.7, a fall from its score of 31.1 in 2012. Target perception was hit after a customer data breach in December caused Target’s consumer perception to drop to its point since at least June 2007. Offers such as a 10% discount on most store items and free credit monitoring services for everyone impacted has put Target back into positive Buzz.

These brands were rated using YouGov BrandIndex’s Buzz score which asks respondents, "If you've heard anything about the brand in the last two weeks, through advertising, news or word of mouth, was it positive or negative?"

The Buzz Rankings chart shows the brands with the highest average Buzz scores between January and December 2013. The Buzz Improvers chart ranks the brands with the highest increase in Buzz between Jan-Dec 2013 and the same period in 2012. Both scores are representative of the general population.

All Buzz scores listed have been rounded to a single decimal place, however, we have used additional precision to assign ranks.
