2013 - Annual Rankings: US Hotel

Narrow leader of the hotel sector, Marriott, launched a new multi-year global marketing campaign called “Travel Brilliantly.” The advertising focusing not only on where travelers are staying but on the destinations they are traveling to. As a part of Marriott Hotel’s transformation, re-designed lobbies and "Greatrooms" are being rapidly deployed for travelers who “blend work and play, and demand style and substance”.

Number two-placed Holiday Inn launched its first solo marketing campaign in five years. “Change Your View” was aimed at attracting younger guests and fighting off the stiff competition from third placed Courtyard Marriott.

Top Buzz improver Motel 6 launched a contest to give three lucky winners the opportunity to check a national US landmark off their personal bucket list.

These brands were rated using YouGov BrandIndex’s Buzz score which asks respondents, "If you've heard anything about the brand in the last two weeks, through advertising, news or word of mouth, was it positive or negative?"

The Buzz Rankings chart shows the brands with the highest average Buzz scores between January and December 2013. The Buzz Improvers chart ranks the brands with the highest increase in Buzz between Jan-Dec 2013 and the same period in 2012. Both scores are representative of the general population.

All Buzz scores listed have been rounded to a single decimal place, however, we have used additional precision to assign ranks.
