Google is the Buzz leader in the Telecommunications and Technology sector, following a hectic 2011 with the launch of Google+ (now with 250 million registered users), the unveiling of Google Wallet and acquisition of Motorola Mobility and Zagat. Sales of Android phones have continued to grow this year – the Google devices now command 50% of the smartphone market share. Apple dominates the list with three of its brands – iPad, iPhone and Apple – in the top 5 ranking. The Kindle secured 2nd place with its manufacturer, Amazon.com, achieving 3rd place in the overall Top 10 Buzz list.
The biggest improver was iPhone, which released a new version in the US in November 2011. AOL is the only brand to make the improvers list that does not manufacturer electrical goods – but the web services company still retains a negative score.
These brands were rated using YouGov BrandIndex’s Buzz score which asks respondents, "If you've heard anything about the brand in the last two weeks, through advertising, news or word of mouth, was it positive or negative?"
The Buzz Rankings chart shows the brands with the highest average Buzz scores between January and June 2012. The Buzz Improvers chart ranks the brands with the highest increase in Buzz between Jan-June 2012 and the same period in 2011. Both scores are representative of the general population.
All Buzz scores listed have been rounded to a single decimal place, however, we have used additional precision to assign ranks.
