2013 - Annual Rankings: UK CharityIndex

CharityIndex measures the public’s perception of charities on a daily basis across a range of measures. YouGov’s 2013 rankings were compiled using Buzz scores from across the year. Buzz scores measure whether people have heard good versus bad news about a charity in the previous two weeks.

Macmillan Cancer Support’s average Buzz score throughout 2013 was 19.7, five-and-a-half points ahead of veterans’ charity Help for Heroes which had the second highest figures (14.2). The rest of the top five is made up of Cancer Research UK (13.8), the British Heart Foundation (8.8) and the RNLI (8.0).

Methodology:

YouGov's CharityIndex questions a representative sample of 125 different people each day on subjects such as the charities they have talked about with friends and family and the charities they have heard of. The results are compiled to generate scores about the public's perception of an organisation.

These charities were rated using YouGov BrandIndex’s Buzz score which asks respondents, "If you've heard anything about the charity in the last two weeks, through advertising, news or word of mouth, was it positive or negative?"

The Buzz Rankings chart shows the charities with the highest average Buzz scores between January - December 2013.

All Buzz scores listed have been rounded to a single decimal place, however, we have used additional precision to assign ranks.
