The announcement of a 40% rise in operating profits after a recent double digit increase in the cost of energy was sure to raise criticism.
British Gas had seen their Index and ‘Buzz’ scores stabilise on BrandIndex after their increase in prices earlier this year, though since the energy company reported annual profits of £571m, the company’s scores have seen a decrease once more.
The Corporate, Index and ‘Buzz’ scores for British Gas of -28%, -31% and -56% respectively are the lowest scores that the brand has seen for this year to date.
British Gas, along with many of its competitors are likely to remain in the news for a while yet, given that Energywatch is calling for a review of the energy industry. Can British Gas improve on its current position? BrandIndex will continue to watch the Utilities and Services sector closely over the coming months.
