The back-to-back launches of season two of “The Path” and especially the acclaimed series “The Handmaid’s Tale” seem to help bring Hulu to its highest female perception levels in nearly two years and its highest quality perception in nearly five years.

Hulu’s challenge will be coming up with enough compelling programming to catch up with its rivals such as Netflix and Amazon Prime: both are currently well ahead of Hulu in perception metrics with women.

Hulu’s last consumer perception peak with women came at the end of a run-up during the second half of 2015 when its business model was mainly free, supplemented by a paid subscription service. An ad-free service was introduced that September. Hulu Plus, the then-paid subscription version of Hulu, began streaming all 180 episodes of “Seinfeld” in June 2015.

Hulu’s quality perception with women has been very gradually rising the past few years, but took a distinct uptick at the end of April, right when the first episode of “The Handmaid’s Tale” premiered.
