On October 8th, Facebook announced it would leverage six new emotional reactions to posts and comments, expanding on the “Like” button. The new emojis, called Reactions will sit alongside the original thumbs-up or “Like” button. Facebook’s Buzz scores since the announcement has moved swiftly upwards.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that people have been asking for a “dislike” button on the social media site for years. Although not a dislike button Reactions should give Facebook users the chance to respond with a whole gamut of emotions: love, laughter, happiness, shock, sadness and anger. The pop-up feature already started as a test for some users in Spain and in Ireland before possible tweaking and a global launch later this year.

After the announcement the company’s Buzz scores moved up from 13 on October 8th to a high of 22 at the end of October.

For YouGov BrandIndex Buzz score, respondents are asked: “If you've heard anything about the brand in the last two weeks, through advertising, news or word of mouth, was it positive or negative?"
